Here’s another HDR image, and then one with slightly more reasonable colours. That’s really the biggest struggle with high dynamic range compositions, I think: getting the colours, especially the saturation values, correct, so that the scene at least kind of resembles “real life”.

Time for another HDR shot. I’ve been experimenting with this technique more and more in recent weeks, and I’m actually starting to get the hang of it (I think).

This shot is a bit wild, I realize — the colour saturation has been boosted quite heavily. I’ve got some more “normal” looking ones, as well as a few others, lined up. This shot is a merge of three exposures, taken at +/- 2 eV and 0 eV exposure. Photomatix was used to assemble the image, with some touchups done in Lightroom.

I got more than a few pictures of the wedding cake, but this one (I think) had the best angle and framing of the lot.

Here comes the bride!

This shot has obviously been rather heavily edited in Lightroom, the result of a couple of new presets I’ve been playing with. I’m really beginning to like the effect of partially de-saturating an image. Here, it creates a kind of “olde tyme” effect.

Apparently, Kate — the bride — hand-picked and arranged all the flowers at her wedding, including the centerpieces. I noticed that the official photographer didn’t seem to be dwelling on such details, however, so I grabbed a few photos of the decor for the sake of posterity.

This is one that Grace took on a recent trip to Vermilion. She liked the look of the clouds.

I was contracted to do some family portraiture for a friend, and this was easily one of the better shots that I came away with. I’m getting better at adjusting saturation to clean up skin tones.

There’s nothing quite like horsing around on a playrgound — it’s an activity that appeals to all ages. This is a photo from a fairly long action set that I shot recently, and the notable edits made to it were adjustments to saturation and contrast.
