Canadian prisoners, unfortunately, still get to vote

tagged , , , , , , and

Personally, I’m of the mind that if one is a “guest of the state,” one leaves one’s right to vote at the door. But in , inmates still get to cast a vote in national elections, unfortunately. And here’s the kicker: Canadian inmates constitute a massive, Liberal-supporting voting bloc.

’s discusses a voting block that the Liberals have in their pockets. Inmates in federal prisons are not just withholding their votes from the Conservatives, but strategically pooling their votes for and the Liberals.

Who’s tough on ? I mean, how can the Liberals have any credibility on crime when the criminals want them to win?

Of course, the didn’t really have much credibility on crime to begin with. Kateland recalls what Dion said during a debate with Harper, and it’s reflective of his party’s generally lenient attitude toward crime.

During the leadership debate Stephane Dion accused Stephen Harper of not trusting justices to judge. Canada.com carries this exchange from the debate:

On Harper’s proposal to toughen sentences for teenagers, Dion said, “I trust judges and you don’t. This is the difference. It’s not that you’re tougher on crime it’s that you want to deprive judges to judge and you want politicians to decide things like for instance to send a child, 14-years-old, away for life.

I cannot speak for Stephen Harper but I can state vociferously for myself that I do not trust the criminal court justices to not only judge, but pass judgment and sentence which are proportional to gravity of the crime committed.

In her article, she’s talking specifically about the same thing I linked to earlier — the disgustingly lenient sentence given to a group of guys who used a cell phone to record and share a video of their gang- of a young girl. Certainly, on that basis, there’s a strong reason to completely distrust the judgement of Canadian “justices.” Were it the only example, it might be unreasonable to assume as much. But it’s not the only example, only the latest example.

Time and again, Canadian judges hand out pitifully small sentences to people who have committed the most depraved sort of crimes. Slaps on the wrist are handed down for all manner of evils, from rape to murder, from theft to deadly negligence and inebriation behind the wheel of a car. A sentence of 21 months for rape is not a punishment, and it’s not justice: it’s a joke. That boy shouldn’t even be in possession of his own genitals anymore, nor should any of his accomplices.

The age of the perpetrator doesn’t really matter — what matters is what was done. And there’s no reason to go easy on anyone. Stephane Dion might lament the fact that a Harper government would try and pass legislation that would mandate tougher sentences for Young Offenders, but let’s be realistic: whether you’re 14 or 44, you don’t deserve an easy break if you commit a crime. That’s doubly true of the “big” crimes, like rape or murder.

But not according to Stephane Dion, apparently. Which is in keeping with the general character of his party’s record in office concerning this issue, I suppose — more than not, it’s the fault of past Liberal governments that we have such a piss-poor criminal “justice” system in Canada these days.

So it’s not exactly hard to see why prisoners might tend to be ardent Liberal supporters.

Preach it, sister!

I’ve had conversations with my wife that basically involve us saying this sort of thing to each other:

Disgusting. The gang-RAPE of a young girl is euphemized beyond recognition, till it sounds as if she merely had her pigtails pulled in the schoolyard. Her RAPE is videotaped and broadcast, further humiliating her. And her RAPISTS get house arrest and counseling? Heck, why don’t they just get a slap on the back from the boys club, and a cool “Atta boy!”?

Justice must not have children, or must be a bit of a sadist himself, to take this so lightly. A “one-time error in judgment”?? A girl was gang-RAPED! He is neither “Honourable” nor “Just” for these actions he has taken in punishing RAPISTS. And for the Crown to be party to this sentencing request means that this girl never had anyone on her side.

The law is an ass if we have asses practicing it. Whatever happened to lynchings, anyway?

A group of boys gang- a girl, record the video of the act on a cell phone, and show the video around…and they get house arrest, 21-month conditional sentences, and a requirement to attend counselling? In two years’ time, they’ll all essentially be free? This is the excuse of a justice system that we have in ?

Why do these young men still have penises? Why has the state not re-possessed their genitals for their gross sadism in the use thereof?

Seriously! Fix ‘em all…like the pigs that they are.

And throw away the key!

Ryan Huppie thought he could get away with it, too. Now he’s up for classification as a “dangerous offender,” which is about the harshest punishment we hand out in anymore. It’s basically just what the post title says: indefinite incarceration.

Huppie deserves it:

An man who claimed he was in a drug-induced psychosis when he d and viciously slashed a school vice-principal he had a crush on, has been convicted.

And now the 24-year-old faces being locked up indefinitely as the Crown told the judge it will be seeking to have him declared a dangerous offender. Court of Queen’s Bench Justice ruled yesterday he did not accept that is not criminally responsible as a result of a mental disorder for the Feb. 17, 2004, attack at a downtown condo.

“There is every reason to believe that the accused was intoxicated on the night in question,” said Clackson in his 18-page written decision.

“However, the events described by (the victim) compel me to the conclusion that the accused knew what he was about and intended to end her life,” wrote Clackson.

“I am satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt that he had the necessary murderous intent.”

Huppie, as I understand it, had previously bragged to a friend that he could get away with the crime by pleading psychosis due to intoxication. It’s good to see that he ended up in front of a judge with no taste for that sort of B.S.

Another case of “uncovered meat”, perhaps?

A 17-year old girl led police to the man who confined and raped her, from whom she had narrowly escaped just after midnight Sunday.

A teen is recovering from multiple injuries, including broken bones, after being beaten and d in a downtown apartment early Sunday.

Cops said the 17-year-old was assaulted just after midnight and, after escaping her attacker’s house, was instrumental in helping police collar a suspect.

Charged with sexual assault, forcible confinement and aggravated assault is 28-year-old Abdikarim Mohamed Firin.

We don’t lock up sex offenders in for nearly long enough anyhow, and I do tend to agree with my wife regarding what an appropriate punishment might be for those who sexually violate another person. But then, she and I have a somewhat older mentality about that issue, and about in general, and tend to view it as a major responsibility with which we — individual humans — have been entrusted. We abuse our sexuality, and that of others, at our extreme peril.

Use a car in an abusive, harmful manner, and your right to drive will be revoked by the government. Perhaps it is brutal of me to say so, but I submit that if one mis-uses one’s sexual faculties, one ought to lose the use of those sexual faculties entirely. It is probably too much to hope that Abdikarim Mohamed will be deprived of his manhood in such a manner, let alone that he will be incarcerated for a length of time appropriate to the crime he has committed, however.

But it’s that middle name that keeps running through my mind. Having seen permutations on the same name in association with a variety of other crimes, many of an horrific nature, in recent years, I cannot help but wonder if this was perhaps an occasion of what I choose to term “uncovered meat syndrome” in action?

At any rate, I think a note of praise should be sounded for this young woman’s courage and determination, which was such that she was able to lead police back to her attacker after escaping with her life — even in the face of broken bones, and in the aftermath of what was almost certainly a brutal attack indeed, she was able to keep her head and bring the police around to see this savage “man” (I use the term very loosely) brought to justice.

Another sick predator loose in Edmonton

I’m telling you, O Reader: mandatory physical sterilization (e.g. penis removal) would be a great deterrent.

An intelligent, well-travelled senior living in a wealthy neighbourhood was a serial rapist’s latest target, cops say.

Det. said an early morning rape Saturday was likely committed by the same man who assaulted three women in the area earlier this year.

“We do believe it is possibly the same suspect,” Grace told reporters yesterday. “It may not be location that is connecting these sexual assaults.

“The concern is that it’s happened again.”

It happened to a 68-year-old woman living alone in a home near 122 Street and 40 Avenue, an upscale area called .

I’ve got family that doesn’t live too far from there, now that I think about it.

I don’t pretend to understand why people , nor do I pretend as though I care to understand; it is a disgusting act, and I don’t think Canada punishes people for it to any sort of sufficient degree. I do indeed believe in forgiveness, of course, but I also believe that some actions have legitimate temporal consequences, and I think that rape is definitely in that category.

My wife often remarks that it would be a fitting punishment to render such criminals unable to assault others in the same way again via physical removal of whatever appendages were their preferred “weapon” in the attacks they’ve perpetrated. I can’t say I disagree.

Only seven years for raping a young boy?

tagged , , , and

I’ll take “You’re a sick, sick man who should be locked up indefinitely” for $400, please, Bob.

Raping a young boy who disclosed the abuse while reading the Biblical tale of Sodom and Gomorra with his father has landed a man a seven-year prison sentence.

Provincial court Judge yesterday said the repeat assaults inflicted on the boy by has left the victim permanently psychologically scarred.

“The victim presented as a very troubled young boy,” Hamilton said, noting he now lives in a group home and has twice attempted suicide.

There’s no way to adequately communicate how damaging — physically and psychologically — this sort of crime is. I know nothing of Mr. Ismail, not even where he is from in the world. Perhaps he’s from one of those cultures where bacha-bazi is commonplace and the norm. Even if so, over here, child molestation and rape is just plain wrong.

And we don’t punish it severely enough in .

Of course, we don’t really punish much of anything severely enough. But really…seven years for multiple acts of ? That’s it? This man will live to see the light of day again, without bars as an impediment to the view? And he still has his penis attached to his body?

“Non-Muslims are never innocent.”

tagged , , , , , , , , , , and

Don’t take my word for it, of course. Take Imam Abdul Makin’s word for it, instead. What’s interesting is the imam’s unusual frankness about the subject — the permissibility of and directed by Muslims at non-Muslims — which I suspect may have had something to do with the fact that the interviewer was a woman (or should that be “was but a lowly woman”?).

N.W. : But our Prophet was sent as a mercy for all the humanity; he never hurt any body in his life?

Imam : Yes he never hurt a Muslim in his life. But Allah said non-Muslim are lowest beasts and worst creatures in ayas 8.22,8.55,95.5 and 98.6 and Muslim are ordered to kill them.

N.W. : But did prophet approve of killing them and raping their wives?

Imam : Yes he did. He not only approved of such acts, he and his sahabas practiced it regularly under Allah’s orders. He was helpless in it… If you don’t believe me , you have to believe sahih hadiths. I will quote you two hadiths about his typical day after a raid. These hadiths are about the raid on jewish village whose chief was who had gorgeous 17 year old wife . Prophet tortured and beheaded Kinana in front of Safia and raped her all night afterwards.

It kind of reminds me of that line from an episode of Battlestar Galactica: “Your girlfriend’s from a lovely family; good people, great values.” Here we have, yet again, an ic community leader openly advocating for the rape and murder of “the infidel” and using the (and the hadiths) to justify his standpoint. And yet somehow, the producers of get it in their heads that maniacal fundamentalist Christians are the real problem?
