Pic of the Day #514
February 15, 2008
Grace liked this photo, enough that she asked that I use it for our website. And you know, I have to agree — it’s a pretty good picture of her, and she does look very pretty. Not that she needs any help to do that.
If you click on the link to Google Maps (above), you won’t see the building we were in at the time this was taken — the Mariott River Cree Hotel & Casino wasn’t built the last time DigitalGlobe (one of the companies that provides imagery for Google) updated their data.
The Cranesmart Christmas Party was held…rather early (as in: Advent hadn’t even started), but the venue was pretty cool and the food was amazing. River Cree is one of only two four-and-a-half star hotels in the Edmonton are (we have no five star hotels), and it shows. And, as has become typical at pretty much any party I attend, my camera got a lot of use during the evening.
This was a pretty straightforward shot, just Grace sitting in her seat at the dinner table. Edit-wise, I had to adjust the white balance a fair bit (so unfortunately, there’s a slight “artificiality” to the colour of the scene), and of course there was a fair bit of noise (since, for indoor work, I shoot at higher ISO values) that had to be cleaned up. But I’m really happy with the look of the shot, and of course I love the subject.
