Lightboxes!

September 18, 2008

Although I think my wife’s blog still has the better gallery component to it, I’ve managed to make ’s image handling a bit more “Web 2.0″ with the addition of the -based Lightbox script by , which was ported into a Wordpress plugin by .

And then, for good measure, I added the same feature to the gallery.

The script works by appending code to the end of a page, as I understand it, which causes a bit of magic to happen when an image is clicked on (well, not all images…only properly designated images will do this). The image will pop up in a frame that overlays itself on the current page, and will just generally look all nice and swanky.

However, because the appended code comes at the very end of the page, the Lightboxes will only work if the page has finished loading; otherwise, the good Reader will be re-directed to the image file proper. So I apologize, here and now, if the Lightboxes aren’t always working here on the main site (they should pretty much always sit up and bark in the gallery); if one of the blogrolls is a bit delayed in loading, that will cause this new feature to…what’s the word?…fail.

But when it works, it looks nice. Almost as nice as on ’s site.

But I’m still just a touch jealous.
