Of such material, I suppose, martyrs might one day be fashioned
Two English schoolboys were given detention for refusing to pray to Allah during an in-class demonstration of Islamic worship.
Parents were outraged that the two boys from year seven (11 to 12-year-olds) were punished for not wanting to take part in the practical demonstration of how Allah is worshipped.
…
One parent, Sharon Luinen, said: “This isn’t right, it’s taking things too far.
“I understand that they have to learn about other Religions. I can live with that but it is taking it a step too far to be punished because they wouldn’t join in Muslim prayer.
“Making them pray to Allah, who isn’t who they worship, is wrong and what got me is that they were told they were being disrespectful.
There’s been a lot of disgust expressed over this issue, but for some reason (the weekend has put me in a good mood) I can’t focus on my anger over what has happened as much as I want to focus on another important issue in all of this: praise for the two boys.
Good on them for standing up for their own beliefs and for refusing to even pretend to worship a god that was not theirs! May they maintain that conviction of faith into their adult years! They seem to be made of good, stern stuff, the sort of thing one might expect from Englishmen if one were of a more historically romantic bent.
