Pic of the Day #629
Seeing as how Grace is a nurse, she of course wanted to check out the new Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute that will be opening this fall on the University of Alberta campus. Said centre held an open house weekend a few weeks back, and we made sure we were there.
It’s a nice facility, from an aesthetic standpoint, and apparently it’s one of the premiere such facilities in the world, certainly the best of its kind in Western Canada. Of course, given the high volume of patient throughput (its day-to-day functions will mostly be ECGs and other routine heart health diagnostics, for which there is considerable demand) that the centre hopes to achieve, the issue of providing an appropriate amount of staff for the place looms large: in a province that is experiencing a shortage of workers in general, and health care workers specifically, making an additional 1,000 medical staff magically appear by September is no small demand.
But let’s come back to the aesthetics of the place. On one of the upper floors of the building can be found the Guru Nanak Dev Healing Garden, a relaxing space where patients can come to…well…relax and retreat from their worries for a bit. It was funded primarily by the Sikh community in Edmonton, and carries the name of the founder of Sikhism as a result.
As the Reader can hopefully see, it’s a nice space, and I think it will serve its intended purpose well.
I’m pretty happy with this picture. Though I had to shoot at a fairly high ISO, most of the light is natural light, and there isn’t too much overexposure on the left side of the frame along the boundary between inside and outside luminances. Edit-wise, I didn’t do much apart from the usual battery of edits and a bit of highlight reduction, and I think the picture stands up very well on its own merits. The primary visual appeal is the lines of the area depicted, anyhow.
