Pic of the Day #625
June 5, 2008
This is one of the schools in Vermilion, Alberta — St. Jerome’s, the Catholic school — and in particular this part of it is, I believe, its gymnasium. Or, rather, the exterior thereof.
I didn’t do a perfect job of it, but the I used Photoshop to try and manually straighten the picture to correct for the barrel distortion that the Lensbaby caused. I made use of the ‘Warp’ tool, if memory serves. This was before I discovered the distortion correction feature in Photoshop, and as yet I’ve not gone back and re-edited the picture using the new tool at my disposal.
That said, I don’t much mind the results; there’s still some obvious bending in some of the image details, but the horizontal elements are pretty straight, and that’s not bad for a first-time, by-hand adjustment.
At any rate, the primary point of this image was the expanding pattern of lines radiating out from the centre of the structure, and I think these are captured well. Edit-wise, there wasn’t much I had to do after applying the ‘Vivid’ preset; the colours of pretty much every element in the scene were just beautiful right out of the camera.
