Pic of the Day #622
A chunk of metal on a patch of grass doesn’t sound that interesting, but add a Lensbaby mix…
I haven’t actually used the Lensbaby in a while, and on a recent trip to Vermilion I took the opportunity to wander around the town for a bit to grab a few photos using my wedding present. I’m still not entirely comfortable with the use of this intriguing lens, but I’ve got a fairly decent handle on it, and this picture in particular turned out rather well — I direct the Reader to observe the overall sharpness of the grass just in front of the metal plate.
Editing a Lensbaby photo is usually pretty easy, since things like digital noise are mitigated in part by the amount of blurring. There is sometimes a fair bit of chromatic aberration to contend with, but that wasn’t the case with this photo.
Edit-wise, the biggest adjustment I made to the picture was the use of Lightroom’s Clarity tool, which does selective unsharp masking on midtones. That brought out a heap of detail on the aforementioned grass, and on the rough edges of the metal. A bit of colour adjustment followed that, but the nice thing about Lensbaby shots is that, more often than not, they come out of the camera looking pretty good already.
Usually.
