Pic of the Day #618
Suddenly, I’ve run out of pictures from Vancouver. Or, rather, I’ve finally finished editing all the pictures that I took two months ago, when Grace and I went out to the coast for a week or so to visit her family out there and celebrate Easter and her grandfather’s birthday. And since there weren’t any more pictures in the sets from the party that I’d care to post as a daily picture, I’ve had to move on to images from the trip home instead.
Like this tree, which graced the parking area at a rest stop along Highway 5 — the Coquihalla Highway — in British Columbia. The Coquihalla is kind of a “shortcut” (when it isn’t blocked by snow and bad weather) between the cities of hope and Kamloops — it forms what is basically the hypotenuse of a triangle, the other two sides of which are Highway 1: a northbound leg and an eastbound leg.
A toll highway, it cuts the travel time by a good few hours, if (as noted) it’s open. And the scenery along the way is gorgeous.
Edit-wise, this photo actually received quite a few modifications in Lightroom. The red, orange, aqua, purple, and magenta saturations were all cut to -100, with the green saturation getting a bit of a boost. Brightness and contrast also got a fair bit of adjustment, and I also applied a fair bit of noise reduction since it is becoming clear that the blue colour channel is the primary vector for digital noise in my camera.
It is, I admit, a sudden transition to go from boats to snowy pine trees, but such is the nature of the British Columbia interior.
