I see my switch to Reader Mail was a timely one
April 23, 2008
Denyse, of Mindful Hack and Post-Darwinist, has disabled the comment boxes on both of her blogs. This is the first — and probably not the last — example of a Canadian blogger doing so out of concern of the possibility of a reprisal against her by a human rights commission.
Canada’s current “human rights” regime has created significant difficulties for bloggers with comboxes for which they are responsible. I am one of the people campaigning for reform, but I don’t know when or whether reform will happen.
I’m glad, then, that I moved to a solution whereby readers essentially mail (well, e-mail) in their comments for me to post to the site’s front page. On the off chance that someone sends in something truly hateful, I have the option not to publish the text. And yet, at the same time, the good Reader still has the opportunity to have his or her say.
