About the suspension notice

Some of you may have noticed that for a while today, was coming up as a blank page, or possibly as an “account suspended” notice. It seems that the amount of traffic I received today, coupled with the long lengths of time that the index.php script had to run for, caused the server to red-line (basically), triggering a protective feature at my ISP.

Obviously, I managed to get them to rescind the suspension. However, in an attempt to mitigate the load on the server, I’ve made a couple changes, one of which concerns the visible contents of the site. Basically, I have trimmed the number of articles displayed on the front page of the site from 26 to a mere 8. Which means that if you want to read something from yesterday, O Reader, you’ll have to do some digging for it. I apologize for the inconvenience, but that’s just what I have to do at present since, for whatever reason, traffic spiked today.

Over the next week or so, I’ll be looking at ways to further optimize the site, including possible design changes. I apologize in advance, then, if the site looks at all “wonky” in the coming days, and for any more service outages should they occur. I think I’ve gotten everything to a stable point, and will be taking additional measures to ensure that I don’t overload the server again, but for the moment you all will have to bear with me.

And if you do, thanks for that.

Update: Apparently, the surge in viewers had something to do with the fact that my final Cylon theory evidently wound up on Digg.

That would be a first.
