Pic of the Day #571

April 12, 2008

At the docks, there were a series of massive fixed cranes which worked to load cargo onto waiting ships. Given who I work for, should it come as any surprise that I stopped to take a few photos thereof?

See? I told you I’d fix it!

Where was this taken?

This picture looked pretty boring coming out of the camera, but after a bit of playing around with the shadows I realized that the cloud cover was shaped in a pretty advantageous way; the lines in the sky converge on the crane. And despite the cloudiness, there’s a lot of good colour in the scene here, as well as some shadow/light interplay, all of which I rather like.

Edit-wise, in addition to tweaking the shadows and the usual calibration/Punch preset, I tweaked the red a little bit, although for the most part this image only needed edits in its lighting and contrast, not its colour.
