Pic of the Day #498
Birds hitting windows might not exactly be the lightest subject for discussion, but that’s neither here nor there; one takes pictures of what one sees, even if sometimes those things aren’t the most pleasant ideas to contemplate.
I don’t actually know why this caught my eye, but I think it had something to do with the contrast of the imprint of the bird on the glass against the dark green hue of the trees behind it. In the full-size shot, I’m actually amazed at how much detail can be picked out of the imprint proper — individual feathers can be easily discerned, as can strands thereof.
Edit-wise, all I really did was a bit of highlight recovery and some increased saturation/decreased luminance in the green colour channel, to better bring out the imprint against the background. Lightroom makes such edits quick and almost effortless.
Update: As an aside, I’ve moved the “where was this taken” link to beneath the picture, instead of keeping it at the bottom of the article. This was how I did things when I first started posting Pics of the Day, and it turns out I like it better.
