I’ve Moved!

November 20, 2008

So I’m sure that most people have noticed that the site has been offline for a few days. There’s a reason for that, which I will get to shortly. But first, let me just say this:

I AM NO LONGER BLOGGING HERE

In fact, I am blogging at a new site I have just finished setting up: kennethhynek.net. A full explanation for the reasons behind the move can be found here.

That said, this is not the end of . My wife has expressed interest in taking over blogging at this domain, and I am working to make sure that she gets set up here as soon as possible.

Also, my profound apologies for the modification to the site face; the move was not as seamless as I would have hoped, and many of the image files for this theme, and in the gallery, were corrupted during the course of their evacuation from my previous web host’s servers. Until such time as I have repaired them, I’ve put a clean-looking template in place of the previous one.

Update: for the purposes of further traffic shaping, new posts from kennethhynek.net will be excerpted below. Full articles can be read at the new blog.

There have been some wonderful sound-bites to come out of Bali:

“When the chips are down I think democracy is a less important goal than is the protection of the planet from the death of life, the end of life on it,” he says. “This has got to be imposed on people whether they like it or not.”

You know, I actually like it when people are so plain in their intent. Its like that one atheist protestor who was photographed with the sign that read: “If Jesus Christ returns, kill him again.” Such things just…communicate so plainly what a person is thinking. It becomes so very easy, at that point, to evaluate exactly how to respond.

So too here: democracy is less important, in the view of this environmentalist, than climate. Given the overall tone of the rhetoric associated with Bali, it’s likely that more than a few of his compatriots would agree with the statement…although equally, I’m sure that they themselves would not want to be living in a dictatorship, even an eco-dictatorship. For the rest of us, though, nothing less will suffice.
