I’ve Moved!

November 20, 2008

So I’m sure that most people have noticed that the site has been offline for a few days. There’s a reason for that, which I will get to shortly. But first, let me just say this:

I AM NO LONGER BLOGGING HERE

In fact, I am blogging at a new site I have just finished setting up: kennethhynek.net. A full explanation for the reasons behind the move can be found here.

That said, this is not the end of . My wife has expressed interest in taking over blogging at this domain, and I am working to make sure that she gets set up here as soon as possible.

Also, my profound apologies for the modification to the site face; the move was not as seamless as I would have hoped, and many of the image files for this theme, and in the gallery, were corrupted during the course of their evacuation from my previous web host’s servers. Until such time as I have repaired them, I’ve put a clean-looking template in place of the previous one.

Update: for the purposes of further traffic shaping, new posts from kennethhynek.net will be excerpted below. Full articles can be read at the new blog.

Pic of the Day #393

October 18, 2007

As I believe I’ve mentioned previously, and elsewhere as well, there were daily Masses held at the Catholic area, in the canvas-and-wood church that had been built by the coordinators and volunteers. This is a shot I captured during one such service.

The chapel made it quite easy to be very reverent, because of how it was lit primarily by candles, and only allowed the sunlight in through a few splits between sheets of canvas, and through one door. There were very drastic, very sharp delineations between dark areas and light.

And of course, it was wonderful just to be able to attend Mass once in a while even when overseas camped out in the middle of a field in the English countryside. It really, really messes up my week when I don’t get Eucharist.

Edit-wise, I find I never have as much to do with shots taken in a primarily dark scene, apart from noise reduction. I adjusted the white balance a little bit, but when the primary lighting is from candles I prefer to keep a bit of a colour cast in the shot. It just looks better, I think.

Where was this taken?
