Groomsmens gifts and blackmail

So of course it is tradition to get one’s groomsmen a gift, and I wanted to get something for each of the guys that was personalized, specific to the recipient (rather than something generic and thus boring). For some of them, it was easy to deduce what to get, and for others I had to ask for help.

As far as my brother’s gift was concerned, though, I’m thinking there might even be some divine intervention involved. Or at least a bit of divine inspiration.

You see, Simon is all of 13 years old, and it would be safe to say that at this point in his life, his interest in girls is negligible. He’s got sports, K-NEX, a tenor saxaphone, and his (well, my) guitar, and that’s just cool with him. So he’s been adamant that he Will. Not. Under. Any. Circumstance. Dance. With. A. Bridesmaid.

Even though his opposite bridesmaid is Grace’s sister, who is about his age and — if I dare say so myself — probably exactly the sort of person Simon wouldn’t mind hanging out with (i.e. funny and athletic, and about as far from the “ditzy” sort of girls that Simon bemoans so constantly as it is possible to get).

But he’s said, repeatedly, that he’ll have none of it.

Until yesterday, that is.

Yesterday, as I was reminding him yet again that he’d have to dance with a bridesmaid, he said he’d only do it if I got him an iPod. Ah-ha! There’s a price on the table now.

Funnily enough, that just happens to be what I bought him about a month ago…he always steals my iPod when I’m not looking, and so I decided that the best gift I could get him would be his own iPod Nano stuffed with every song his ten favourite artists that I could find in my own music library.

And as it just so happens, it would appear that I can now also use it to…ahem…compel him to dance the obligatory two dances with Michel, as per normal wedding reception tradition.

Heh.

Oh, I’m not actively seeking to torment my brother, but it’s too good an opportunity to pass up; besides, he’s not going to be able to hide from the fact of life that is dancing forever. Even I failed in that venture.

That and I’m not going to tolerate him disappointing either my bride or her sister at my wedding.
