I’ve Moved!

November 20, 2008

So I’m sure that most people have noticed that the site has been offline for a few days. There’s a reason for that, which I will get to shortly. But first, let me just say this:

I AM NO LONGER BLOGGING HERE

In fact, I am blogging at a new site I have just finished setting up: kennethhynek.net. A full explanation for the reasons behind the move can be found here.

That said, this is not the end of . My wife has expressed interest in taking over blogging at this domain, and I am working to make sure that she gets set up here as soon as possible.

Also, my profound apologies for the modification to the site face; the move was not as seamless as I would have hoped, and many of the image files for this theme, and in the gallery, were corrupted during the course of their evacuation from my previous web host’s servers. Until such time as I have repaired them, I’ve put a clean-looking template in place of the previous one.

Update: for the purposes of further traffic shaping, new posts from kennethhynek.net will be excerpted below. Full articles can be read at the new blog.

I’m a little bit ticked off at present, because I banged my toe against a door-frame earlier today, and it hurts rather fiercely now. I hope I didn’t break the damn thing, but knowing my luck that’s exactly what I did. Were I smart, I would go to the hospital just to be sure that it’s in decent shape, but there are three things that work against me wanting to go: 1) I have laundry in the dryer at present, and most of my shirts will wrinkle if I just leave them in there, 2) I want to finish more of my Battlestar Galactica box-set episodes (I got the original series, plus the first two seasons of the new one, for Christmas), and 3) this is the Canadian health-care system, and I really don’t want to sit around for 6 hours in a waiting room with a bunch of other people who are varyingly sick and/or injured, watching my relatively minor — though painful — problem get circumvented and pushed back because stab wounds and bar fight victims keep getting brought in. I don’t want to wait those 6 hours, then be admitted only to wait another three hours for the doctor to come and see me, tell me to keep my weight off the damn thing for a few days (because I’ve looked, and there’s no misalignment in the toe that would need any sort of corrective appliance or structure applied to it), and send me out the door with a prescription for painkillers.

Anyhow, so since I’m laid up at home, and haven’t been able to busy myself with all the housework I’d so hoped to get done today (heh…riiiiight…) for fear of sending yet another stab of pain lancing up my leg, I’ve been posting Pics of the Day instead. Here’s the latest batch that’s made it online:

As a footnote: why does Celtic music make me tear up, just a little bit?

As a second footnote: Grace called this evening. Apparently, phone calls from Punta Cana (in the Dominican Republic) cost like $4.00 a minute, so we only talked for a couple minutes, but it was nice to hear her voice. And she pretty much confirmed my suspicions about going to the hospital. So I’ll just suck it up and stop whining about this stupid toe. And hopefully the bruising will have gone down by the morning.

Update: Ouch and more ouch. Don’t break your toe if you can avoid the experience at all. It rather limits mobility.
