I’ve Moved!
November 20, 2008
So I’m sure that most people have noticed that the site has been offline for a few days. There’s a reason for that, which I will get to shortly. But first, let me just say this:
In fact, I am blogging at a new site I have just finished setting up: kennethhynek.net. A full explanation for the reasons behind the move can be found here
.
That said, this is not the end of Time Immortal. My wife Grace has expressed interest in taking over blogging at this domain, and I am working to make sure that she gets set up here as soon as possible.
Also, my profound apologies for the modification to the site face; the move was not as seamless as I would have hoped, and many of the image files for this theme, and in the gallery, were corrupted during the course of their evacuation from my previous web host’s servers. Until such time as I have repaired them, I’ve put a clean-looking template in place of the previous one.
Update: for the purposes of further traffic shaping, new posts from kennethhynek.net will be excerpted below. Full articles can be read at the new blog.
Wedding preparations
January 12, 2007
I don’t think I ever formally announced it on the website here, although I have alluded to it a few times in other postings, so let me take a few moments to state formally that I am, in fact, engaged to be married. Her name is Grace, and if I do the math right we’ve known each other for five years. Almost exactly five years, in fact — tomorrow (January 13, 2007) is our anniversary, as I would have first asked her out on January 13th, 2002.
For the curious and detail-minded, I proposed to Grace at approximately 10:15 in the evening on December 9th, as we were leaving a Christmas party.
I’ve been trying to write down and collect my thoughts about this whole thing, but the theme I keep coming back to is that it really is about time (in our more frank moments, Grace and I will agree that we should have done this two or three years ago), and that it’s been the right decision pretty much from day one and onward. I love her dearly, and this feels like a calling and a vocation to be engaged to her.
At any rate, the current plan is to hold the wedding on October 20th, at about 1:00 PM in the afternoon. That’s when I’ve booked the church for the event. The service will be held at St. Alphonsus (sorry, no parish website), not our regular parish of St. Joe’s, owing to the fact that the chapel at the College is actually quite small (its capacity, for a wedding, is about 120 people), and Grace has a fairly substantial extended family with whom she is quite close. My family isn’t exactly small either, and I have certain other folks who are on the list of “must invite” — the Rover Crew, for example. All in all, we’re banking on a guest list of no more than 200 people…but unfortunately that number is somewhat above and in excess of 120, and so we’ve had to find an alternate parish at which to be married.
I have arranged, however, for Father David Bittner to be the presider at the ceremony, however, which is who both Grace and I had wanted to be there.
Actually, having booked the church and the priest is already a decent load off in terms of planning and stress. We have to pick a venue for the reception still and book that (and, depending on where we have the reception, we may need to book a caterer as well), and there are a few different places we’re looking at in that regard. Grace is going to handle booking the musicians, at least for the ceremony, and we need to look at different options for music at the reception.
I’ve got to call up a friend from high school and see if she and her employer can give me a decent rate for doing the wedding photos. The one nice thing about the advent of digital photography is that these days it can save a fair bit of cash for the bride and groom if they just opt for a CD or DVD of “digital negatives” (i.e. processed, high-quality copies of the images) and handle getting the prints done themselves (rather than opting for one of several expensive package options). Mind you, I’m not above going for a package if the price is reasonable — I have to see what Kathy’s boss has to offer in that regard.
And we still need to book marriage prep sessions, but the diocese offers those at pretty regular intervals, so there shouldn’t be a problem there either.
Anyhow, just wanted to fire out an update to you, O Reader, to let you know what changes are afoot in the life of this one blogger. I’ll post details as I have them to post, and I’ll see if I can’t get some pictures up of the church, the reception venue (when we pick it), and other related things.
